Barney

Ch. Shanghai Fur-Bee’s Echimo (Barney) 1987 - 1998
(Biddles Echo of Solo X Shanghai’s Ginger Snap)
Owned by: Ted Lee

Sire of 12 Champions

This dog had a great impact on GoodTymes Chows in the early 90s.
Luis made a trip to some shows up north, and on his way back decided to stop by to see Sharon Biddles of Biddles Chows. Sharon took Luis to see a litter of puppies bred by Sandra Bridgewater of Ron-San’s Chows, sired by Barney, a dog he’s never heard of. In that litter was an outstanding bitch which Luis brought home as my Christmas present.
Ch. Ron-San’s Classic Design - ‘Bubbles’ (1990 BISweeps winner, 1991 Natl. BOB and Nº 1 Chow Bitch) turned out to be everything we had hoped for, so we contacted Ted Lee, the owner of Barney, and asked for photos and his complete pedigree. When we received the documents we realized that the dog was linebred back to the old Cedar Creek line and one of our favourite influential stud dogs, Jewel’s Supermanchu. The photos also showed us where Bubbles got most of her overall type.
Ted was very accommodating, and Barney came to live with us for a few months. He was bred to a couple of our bitches, and a few outside bitches as well. Out of the two litters we had came Ch. GoodTymes Whistle Britches (1994 Natl. BOB winner from the 12-18 month Puppy Class), her litter sister sold to United Chows of Thailand, and a very heavy litter brother, GoodTymes Who’s the Boss - ‘Lek’ who stayed with us as a stud dog. There was another bitch to finish as well, Ch. GoodTymes Glamour Girl.
Two of the outside bitches belonged to Carmen Blankenship, and out of two litters there were three champions: Ch. Chinabear Hardbody, Ch. Chinabear Budda Boi. and Ch. Chinabear Ruffles-n-.Frills. Ruffles was later bred to Ch. Kobys MC K Jr. at Eldorado and produced two champions: Ch. Chinabear Leather-n-Spurs and our Ch. Chinabear Linen-n-Lace - ‘Fiesta’ (1999 BOS CCCInc. Natl.)
Fiesta, being a granddaughter of Barney, was then bred to our Lek, a Barney son, and produced Ch. GoodTymes Stars-n-Stripes - ‘Banner’. At this point, every dog in our kennel went back to Barney. He was a lovely dog and a great pre-potent stud. If he had been recognized and used more by the chow fanciers he could have done a lot more for the breed. To our knowledge he is the only stud dog to produce two National Specialty BOB winners, and there have only been three bitches ever to win BOB at the CCCInc. National; two of them were sired by Barney.
We thank Ted Lee for allowing Barney to be part of our lives, and the continuation of GoodTymes Chows.
